There were no statistically significant differences in the interest of PDF management features between the user and non-user groups but there were statistically significant differences in the interest of some of the training options between the groups. Mobile features were of the least interest.

PDF annotation and reading tools were also of some interest. More broadly, Zotero is a powerful tool for collecting and organizing research information and sources. In Zotero, each of these references constitutes an item. It is designed to store, manage, and cite bibliographic references, such as books and articles. After this, the user cannot select from these dynamic management views or. Zotero is, at the most basic level, a reference manager. To do this, first create the user in master and then deny the user SELECT permission on the dynamic management views or functions that you do not want them to access. Students were most interested in full-text searching of PDFs, automatic renaming of PDFs, and automatically extracting citation metadata from a PDF. Docear (pronounced dog-ear) is what we call an academic literature suite. This lets you selectively restrict access of a user or login to dynamic management views and functions. All features related to mind mapping tools are available, such as the possibility of inserting images, using formulas, creating nodes and structures. Most of the students saved PDF documents to their computer. Docear allows you to draft, organize, and write academic literature by letting you integrate mind maps, and organize references and PDFs. In some cases, a search and retrieval can be conducted directly in the reference manager. Though it shares many features with other reference management options, Docear has a unique system for organizing information. Database connectivity edit This table lists the academic databases and search engines which reference managers can import from. RMS users also mentioned the steep learning curve, problems with extracting metadata from PDFs, technical issues, and problems with inaccurate citation styles. Most reference management programs support copy/paste or drag-and-drop of references into any editor, but this is not meant here. The principal reasons for non-use were that students were not aware of options that were available, and the amount of time needed to learn the program. Non-users managed their citations and references with a variety of other tools.
#Docear as reference management software
Both users and non-users of reference management software were invited to participate. Im still using Mendeley Desktop because Im used to read papers through it. Interest in different types of PDF management features and training options were also investigated. However, as far as I understand, Mendeley Reference Manager does not support local storage, while Desktop does. Graduate students at the University of Manitoba were surveyed to find out if they used reference management software (RMS), features used, challenges and barriers to using RMS.
